Summary

An e-commerce website for a chocolate shop where customers have the option of selecting individual chocolates to make up their own assortment boxes. You want 24 dark orange fondants? You can have 24 dark orange fondants.

Custom selections not easy but worth it

The initial idea was to base the website on an e-commerce service that would work ‘out of the box’ to keep costs down and launch the site quickly. Unfortunately, it didn’t seem that any could provide a user-friendly way of allowing users to make their own selections. (If you know any different, let me know.)

Because of this, I had to code this feature myself. This made the site more expensive than intended. However, the overwhelming majority of sales have been for customer selections so this looks like a necessary investment.

Works on mobile devices

Phones and tablets account for over 36% of UK online sales, a figure you can’t ignore.

We haven’t: orders can be made on tablets and phones and the website adjusts to make ordering clear and simple on smaller screens.

Full client control

My client can easily access and update all the content that is on the website.

E-commerce data and functions – e.g. product information (description, pricing, photos) and order processing – are separate from the website and under my client’s full and exclusive control. This gives him a lot of flexibility. The website could be changed significantly, or even rebuilt from scratch by another website designer, without having to do anything to the e-commerce section.

Adding and editing content and changing settings is easy. My client did the work himself with no problems. I could, of course, do this for you, if you prefer.
