Gig poster – Feldspar

Gig poster – Feldspar – 2up
Gig poster. Original doodle version (left), type version (right)

I did a set of gig posters, each based on a phone doodle. Then I did a version of each without the doodle with more emphasis on the type. Both versions shown above.

How did I get to version 2?

  • Kept the typeface.
  • Kept the doodle, which is cheating, I know.

I was quite happy with the original although I should’ve removed the ‘£5’ circle, which is clumsy, anchoring the image when it should be floating free.

The second poster is version 2.5. I’d originally dropped the image, as planned, and changed a few things but it was boring. So, the image stays with the (weak) excuse that it’s now a background pattern. It’s (obviously) a more arresting poster with the image than it could be without it. That’s the important thing.

The halftone (dot) effect unifies the text and background and adds interest.1

  1. Also enlarging the image lowers its resolution so it wouldn’t look as good when printed. Adding the effect disguises and reduces this, although it’s probably not that important in this context.
