Gig poster – School Rulers

I did a set of gig posters, each based on a phone doodle. Then I did a version of each without the doodle¹ with more emphasis on the type. Both versions shown above.

How did I get from 1 to 2?

• Kept the font and letter colouring idea.
• Swapped the block of coloured shapes for a block of coloured letters.

Readability

Because the colours of the letters stay the same when the names are repeated, it’s easy enough to jigsaw the full name together.

It’s not always a good idea to make something easy to read.² Those who do work out what the poster says have engaged with it much more than they would have done if it was easily readable at a glance.
