Gig poster – The Not Really
Gig poster. Doodle version (left), type version (right)
I did a set of gig posters, each based on a phone doodle. Then I did a version of each without the doodle1 with more emphasis on the type. Both versions shown above.
How did I get from 1 to 2?
- Replaced the doodle with a similar shape made from type.
Does this count as getting rid of the doodle? When is something type and when is it an illustration? Does anybody care? - Removed the black strip at the top because it was a daft idea.
- Thinner, slightly ‘harder’ typeface. The original is too bland and too bold for the image.
- A background gradient is rarely a good idea.
- The box around the information text is unnecessary. Alway was.
- What was I thinking?
