Gig poster – Dragons of Disgust

Gig poster – Dragons of Disgust – 2up
Gig poster. Original doodle version (left), type version (right)

I did a set of gig posters, each based on a phone doodle. Then I did a version of each without the doodle1 with more emphasis on the type. Both versions shown above.

How did I get from 1 to 2?

  • ‘Rationalised’ the blobs into a grid of circles. Then adjusted the type height and layout so it fits the grid.

This is yet another poster where I’ve not really dumped the doodle, just converted it something that you could argue is ‘less doodley’.

Organised to death

The second poster is just an ordered version of the first. The differences are mostly accidental results of the tidying process. The slight optical illusion effect of the second poster’s lettering, and its reduced legibility, is caused by the background change.

The circles go to the edges because I liked the idea of a continuous pattern if multiple posters were placed together.

  1. That was the original idea. I did end up using varying amounts of doodle in some posters.
