Gig poster – Ryan Moufflon
How did I get to version 2?
- Kept the ‘handwritten’ lettering idea.
- Used the ‘3D’ stripes from the image.
On poster one the lettering is a font. I wrote the lettering by hand for poster two. It’s probably not obvious from a casual glance. But it is better (because each letter shape is different which makes it more interesting, for a start) and I would notice.
I wouldn’t expect many people to notice (or care) that I’ve written the lettering rather than use the more convenient digital font. But a designer does these things in the hope (or belief) that it is appreciated by viewers, even if they aren’t consciously aware that they are doing so.
The background of poster two, including the black stripes, is a photograph (the only photo I’ve used in these posters). The stripes in the original image have a 3D effect. It seemed much easier, and would create a different feel, just to photograph some strips of paper, rather than recreate them digitally.
