Easy to update events page
The events page takes information straight from a separate Google Calendar.2 This is easy for my client to update and provides plenty of useful features, such as the ability to set up an event that occurs every 2nd Thursday of the month, for example.3
Ch..Ch..Changes
The website started as a very basic single page weeks before the business opened. It grew as the business grew with new content added as it became available. Although it’s had a couple of redesigns the website still reflects its evolutionary growth and now could do with a ‘top down’ redesign.
I would like to give the whole thing a new look. It will be much easier to design something appropriate now that I am familiar with the business than it would have been before it stated. It could do with some decent photos and it needs some reorganisation. The promotion boxes on the front page particularly need a rethink.
The promotion boxes (title, image, short caption, link to relevant page) were added when the café started holding events. There were 3 boxes to start with. It was quick and easy to add anything that needed promoting. With 3 boxes it didn’t matter that these were quite different events. However, as more promotions were needed it was too easy to add more boxes. This was a short term fix that now needs sorting out.
The problem is that anything being promoted goes into an identical box. This makes the café’s own bistro night appear equivalent to a one-off film showing or a monthly book club. Each of these has a different value to the business which should be recognised with a different appearance and place on the website. This would make it possible to promote events or services more effectively. It would also help website visitors get a clearer view of what the café does and make the website easier to use.
